Default Auto to Manual trans Swap.

hello all,

I am a new member here, just wanted to say high.

now to kill two birds with one stone...

do any of you know if the L76 platform is compatible with the Tremec TR-6060 Transmission? Its the 6 speed thats in the ZR-1. the TR-6060 is a newer version of the T56(this one is in the CTS-V). OR does the T56 fit, as i understand its in the Commodore SS and SS/V

Because if it is.... its something I would REALLY consider swapping.

thank you for your time.

If I remember correctly, all transmissions in the C5 and C6 Corvettes are mounted in the rear of the car, not in the traditional place right behind the engine. I don't think these would work very well if at all. I would think you would have better luck fitting the T-56 into your trans tunnel.

I miss rowing gears, but at the same time, I am really enjoying the "Stomp on it and go" that I get with the 6spd auto.

GM currently dont fit a manual trans to any engine with Active Fuel Management (Displacement on Demand). If you fitted a manual you'd have to turn off the L76 AFM.

LS3 cars (HSV and G8-GXP) made after Nov 2008 have the engine/bellhousing mounted TR6060. Mechanically you'd have few problems fitting a T56 or TR-6060. A GXP would be a good place to source all the hardware.

I know this is the cliche response for this sort of thing, but for all the money and effort required you should just get a GXP. That way there is a warranty, and it'll still have some resale which a hack job conversion won't.

With the cost of parts it is probably a 6 of one deal compared to cost of GXP, but you gain in mpg and in uniqueness. It can be done.

I totally forgot about the transaxle trans so T56 it is...

I wouldnt consider this upgrade for a couple of years... by then the aftermarket for this car should be abundant, but tremec is what I am sticking with as its one of the best.

I see what you mean by buying the GXP but the Insurance is astromomical over the GT for me. (I'm 21) the GT is $200 a month. which is less than some of the other lower performance cars. (Acura TL, Subaru Legacy, Audi, etc.)

thanks again,

You can use a TR-6060 (engine mounted) as per G8-GXP.

I highly doubt that, the only way they could justify that would be a 10k+ ded. at best!! No way in hell you are paying $307 for 6 months coverage at 23 when rest of us here in the 25+ group (im almost 30) are paying in the neighborhood of $100 a month with a $1000 ded. through Allstate. To each their own.

I'd suggest not using allstate then. Geico was trying to offer me more than double what I'm paying now, I told them they could shove it.

I sent you a PM, medicff0879.

I am looking into the auto to manual swap as well. But then again, I got a friend whose dad owns 3 salvage yards. He gives me a call when a suitable car comes in, I come by with a 30 pack for him and pick all day long. lol.
