Bought off the Car Hauler. Gas Mileage ?
My second new car in the last 30 years. Great choice I am thinking. 70 miles on my 09 GT that I spotted on a car hauler delivering the last of its cargo to a dealer down the street from the Pontiac dealer. Asked the driver where it was going and he said "down the street." I immediately drove to the Pontiac dealer and asked if the red GT about to be delivered to them was pre-sold. The deal was nearly done before the car was rolled off the carrier. - the first GT in town. I had been waiting at least 3 months since reading about it, to feast my eyes, touch, then drive one. The salesman had nearly no work to do. Two days later the windows were tinted and in my garage. With Sport and Premium packages, I know these cars can be bought for 32K, and perhaps a little less. Great price for an M5 BMW Beater.
What is the gas mileage to be expected? (Certainly hope better than my computer says currently - 12 mpg - with an admitted lead foot for now.)
A Porsche collector, I am more interested in how to improve my gas mileage than how to yank out more HP. Any suggestions beyond EZ footin' it?

I gained 2 mpg from my tune.....I averaged overall between 20-24 combined city and highway. Stay out of it, use your foot and not cruise....Keeps DOD more active and enjoy. Oh and my 20-24 wasn't using those methods

I am new to new American iron. The latest Detroit auto I have owned was a 1972 El Camino...so, CAI? VMS HSRK?, NEP? Please interpret for the novice. Why would one want to tune a new car? What is involved in a Engine/Transmission tune? Thanks for such a quick response.

The cars are choked down from the factory to pass emmisions standards etc. CAI=Cold Air Intake, VMS HSRK= Vector Motorsports Heat Soak Reduction Kit, NEP= New Era Performance. Both Vector and New Era are Tuner Shops and provide numerous products and services for our cars. The engine/trans tune helps fine tune the shift points making the car crisper and faster through the shifts, in both normal and sport mode. Which as a Porsche man you should be able to appreciate. any more questions feel free to fire away, and welcome to our insane little world!

Big help. Thanks again. I will pursue the CAI as a first step mod. Any particular brand recommended? Anyone seen a G8 with TechArt wheels?

I went with the intake from New Era Performance. It's well priced, a good quality product, and it works great. Plus they are great about answering any questions and concerns you might have. I drive 400 miles to have them work on my car.....And would drive further if I had to.

I got the Roto-Fab CAI. Some info is here:
Roto-Fab G8 cold air intake kit
It does make the engine louder when you get into it. I like the sound.
