Default Paint comming off my G8 GT

I was washing my car yesterday and noticed a lot of rock chips all over the hood and front bumper cover and a few chips on the rear driver side door. I also noticed a small black spot on the side skirt just on the edge under the drivers door and thought it to be road tar, I started rubbing it with my wash mit and put a little muscle into it because it wouldn't come off and the damn paint rubbed right off. I got pissed as hell, my dealer will be seeing me today. FYI, take a walk and good hard look at your paint. Hope this is not going to be a problem, will keep you posted.

Rock chips on your hood......In Detroit? No....Say it isn't so! Spent a week commuting from Toledo to Pontiac in my Stratus R/T and by the time I was done I gave the car to my wife because I was so sick over the rock chips!

Had mine 2 months and I got 4 chips in front , one even on top of hood just past the scoop , this one really shows up on black , and more unexplained marks on the rear bumper cover.

Default paint

i haven't had any problems with the paint on my panther metallic gt, but the guy i talked to at the dealership who also owns a gto said that they have a different paint standard in australia. He said that is was a good thing that there paint is better than here.

Default 3M Invisi-mask

I work for 3M and contacted the customer service at the url below (It's a 3M partner):

Paint Protection and 3M Clear Bra for your vehicle. Also known as Rock Guard.

They sent me a series of cut-outs they have for the G8. See attached. I am going to go with the hood nose, air intakes, mirrors, front fascia, skirt and I have asked them to provide a cut-out for the lower rear quarter panel. I'll let you know what I get quoted...Maybe lower than what you will pay because I can get a 3M discount.

There are also some video's that show you how to install with lot's of tips for perfection on this site.

I did not see a listing in either catalog for the G8 at the website above.

Yes, I had to contact their customer service to get this. I am sure that with the car being as new as it is, it may take a little while before they get it into one of their catalogs. The cut-outs I provided are the only thing they have sent me. I Expect to have a quote when i get back to my home e-mail tonight.

Default 3M Clear Bra - Quote

1. Top diagram - Hood nose w/ air breathers and mirrors
$140

2. 2nd to bottom - Front Fascia ( Are the lights part of one diagram
or are they also a stand alone cut-out ?...not interested in doing
the lights ) Lights are seperate. Bumper is $160

3. Bottom - Side skirts only (rockers) ...(If it has to be purchased
with door handles, spoiler, etc. let me know)
Rockers can be seperate and I can throw in the others free if they fit on the sheet of film.
Rockers kit: $150

4. Can you do something for the bottom half of the rear quarters ?
I can send you a sheet of film so you can custom make something. Its easy to cut.

Ok, now your "3M" discount for the above.

$380 for eveything. ($70 off).
This includes shipping and the tools if you elect to do it yourself.

Here is the deal, after Red Holman Pontiac and GM strung me along for almost 2 months the factory rep said that GM would not warrenty my paint. Reason being that I had alot of rock damage to the front end, small chips in the wind shield and it appeard that my foot was hitting the rocker panal sometimes getting in or out of the car. Even though the spots where the paint on the left rocker is no where near my entry point to the drivers door, also he said the spot on the right front bumper cover could have come from a shopping cart hitting my car. When I went to Red Holman Pontiac July 8th instead of repairing the one spot that was there from day one the paint has gotten worse and the said they will fix it for $1665.00. Now I have noticed that on the weather stripping in the trunk that there are spots of red paint all way round and there are some small spots where the paint is to the bear metal where the trunk makes contact with the wearther stripping. Todd the body shop manager said that was normal for a RED car because water and dirt gets between the deck lid and weather strip and vibration from driving causes that and he didnt see it being a problem because even with spots to bare metal u cant see it when the trunk is closed. Now im 40 and have owned 13 new cars 11 GM cars and 2 fords and I have never see or heard of paint coming off because water and dirt. So I have hired a laywer and I am going to sew Red Holman and GM, yes me the little working class guy is sick of the big rich companies take our money and refuse to give us what we pay for. You guys that are having paint issues that are not doing anything about it are doing just what GM wants you to do.. NOTHING, This is my last GM product and maybe my last so called american made car. I see why GM if folding and its was a long time coming, I just hate the GM factory workers suffer or the BS desisions (mispelled) that so called upper management makes. I will keep you all posted on the law suit.

Hi all. This is my first post. I will be picking up my '09 on Thursday I hope,
because during my final inspection, just before driving it off the lot, I
noticed a pale patch in the silver paint in the right rear lower quarter
panel. The car just didn't get enough paint sprayed on, and the primer
was showing through. The dealer is painting it for me. If there's any more
problems this may help establish a precedent for my car...
