Question Battery & Oil Gauge

There must be a way to do this. I would rather see the date and time stamp where the battery and oil gauge digital graphics are. Does anyone know how to do this?

Buy a nice clock with calendar and velcro it over the gauges.

Sorry. There are people working on analog gauges to replace the Atari display. Hopefully it will be out in June.

Does anyone know if the gauges have dot addressable graphics? Maybe it is a module that can be programmed through the CAN bus.

We have some smart people here, is there any good information?

Do you have the car yet? I believe if you have the base radio, this is how it's set up.

It says here: Dream cruiser: 2008 Pontiac G8 is a new muscle car for Woodward that the display is going away in 2009. "Pontiac says the big red screen will disappear when the 2009 model arrives."

Anyone know what is going to be there?

Mark

Now is it just me, or does every pic I see of the 09's have this part of the dashboard blacked out in the photos?
I'm thinking Pontiac doesn't even know what they are going to do yet.

Even the pics in MotorTrend of the 09 GXP and Ute have this part of the dash cleverly blacked-out.

I just put 2 layers of 20% tint over the center gauges. The red grid is invisible now and the gauges dont overpower the rest of the dash. As you can see they are now dimmer than the DIC. If I were to do it over again, I would have used 5% or 2.5% tint.

Thanks for the pics. I'm considering doing to same.

However, I don't understand your comments. You said you used two layers of 20% tint, but if you would do it again, you'd only use 5%? Why not remove one of the 20% layers of tint you put on and see how it looks?

Mostly because 1 layer of 20% wasn't dark enough. And when I tried to stick 2 layers of 20% together, I ended up with a few bubbles in between the layers. If I had done 5% to start, no bubbles. I may end up re-doing the whole thing but its ok for now. It would probably be a lot easier if I knew how to take apart the dash, but I'm a little timid to do that just yet being that the car is so new.

I feel like if the car sells well, and the next models have anticipated high-sales, there will be aftermarket components engineered to fit there. Enough people immediately point that out. It had to have been a compromise on GM's part. As if some system wasn't ready to be integrated and they NEEDED to get the product to market. It's totally rigged.

There is a G8 custom parts manufacturer who is working on a new set of gauges, JHP Vehicle Enhancements - Specialise in Holden Monaro and Commodore Spoilers, Body Kits, Tyre and Wheel Packages.. There is a double hump set that goes on top of the dash and there is a set that actually replaces the old ones. They should be custom and look good, much better than what is there, though I think a picture of Gary Busey would look better than Atari

well if you just bought a 32000 car, you might as well throw in another 1,800 to replace that ugly gauge, if what you say about the price is true

Great News...analog (possible HSV) center stack gauges in 2009! - Pontiac G8 Forum - G8Board.com

1800 bucks for a gauge set is way too much...i don't care how much you paid for a car.....even though i only paid 29 for mine. :-)

I have an 09 and the gauges are gone. Looks kinda weird to see an empty spot but it's better than that red evil glow display.

That is what I have been wanting to do. Put a flip out screen and only the screen, then add two headrest Tv's, and install a DVD player in the arm rest or glove box so I will be able to keep my stock radio functional and still be able to watch DVD's.

Here is a post were someone is already installing radio.

Got to say I like my battery/oil gauge better than a gaping hole in my dash. GM should have put a lid on it to make it look more finished.

This will end the "oil/battery" gripes, but the "gaping hole" gripes will start now.

Mark
