Do you want to get rich? (not a scheme or scam)
The first person or company that can come out with a complete speaker replacement package for under $600, would sell then to darn near every G8 owner.
I am more inspired by something like a Lexus Mark Levenson system. or an Infinity based system.
The speakers that come from the factory leave a lot to be desired. It would be nice to have a "package" that is optimized exactly for the G8, with drop in replacements. Include instructions on installation for the more difficult to install drivers. The drivers should be optimized for the factory radio and leave a lasting impression. Trust me, easier said than done.
You can sign me up!
The most difficult part of something like this is trial and error involved in getting a good balanced sound. I have replaced speakers in the past several times with poor results, even with really good speakers.
You could probably sell it on eBay, and to dealers. Get a good review or two and you will not be able to ship them fast enough....

i think it'll b a bit hard, since most of the new GM radios contain allot of the actuall computer system of the car, so making modules that will actually keep all the functionality would b a quite a big job to be done!

I have nothing against aftermarket improvements, but I totally disagree that the stock system is a POS. The sound in my G8 is great! There is a big difference when choosing EQ settings (to my ears), but in general I think it is great. I'm sure there is better, but the only sound upgrade that is needed IMO is the V8 growl.

HoldenTX, I almost agree with with you... If this was a Ferrari, a sound system would be a moot point. However inching along in stop and go traffic could be made more tolerable by decent sound system.
I think the factory head unit is probably very good, it just needs some complimentary drivers (speakers) to complete the experience.
I had a '98 GTP with premium sound, and it sounded awesome from the factory. I traded it in on a 2000 GTP, and the sound system was aweful, until I updated the rear speakers with some Boston Acoustics. It was like a night and day difference. I was lucky in selecting the proper speaker for the job. As a teen I spent two years installing car stereos, and once I found a good combination for a particular car, I sold it over and over again, to very happy customers. Each car has different acoustics, and can benefit from a properly selected set of speakers. Hint: the most expensive ones are not always the best choice....

Looks like Crutchfield already has the G8 in their system. Not a complete tuned audio solution, but upgrade speakers and install instructions are available.
Personally I'm very pleased with the premium package audio. EQ off, bass and trebble up a few (or more) notches, slight fade to back, balance a tick right, and it sounds pretty damn good to me.

I guess I didn't realize there is a difference between the audio in the premium package and non-premium.
I have the premium and the sound is pretty good....i will agree that when the volume is cranked very high you can hear the distortion of the speakers. But at the volumes I normally listen at (and I do listen at quite loud levels) it is pretty decent.

I wouldn't trust them that much. They gave me COMPLETELY wrong information regarding my truck. They don't quite understand the right adapters to keep the onstar working.

Amen! I couldn't agree more. I had an '02 GTP and could crank it with no distortion. I am interested in finding out what luck people are having with aftermarket.

Sorry, my bad. Clarification: the audio upgrade is not in the "Premium Package," but between the V6 and GT. All GTs have the " Premium Audio," but it's optional on the V6. Clear as mud, eh?

I'd personally just get a trunkloc system to let you plug in aftermarket amplifiers. I plan on integrating my Diamond HEX600S and HEX500S component systems in with my Kicker ZX650.4 amp. Want to find some subs that I can replace the stock 8"ers with

I'm planning on replacing everything from the head unit back with JL audio goodies. This is a daily driver so sinking $10k into the audio is worth it to me. (After I get the 10k to GET the car) =\
1 Rockford Fosgate 3SIXTY.2 - Should be iPhone tunable
2 JL Audio ZR650-CSi Front and rear doors tweets mounted high and aimed right
3 JL Audio 13w7s firing upward through the rear deck
3 JL Audio 1000/1 for the subs
JL Audio Slash v2 450/4v2 for the components
1 Optima Yellow
1 Kinetik 2600
2 OEM Alts
And a LOT of time tuning and balancing

That would be one SICK system!
I personally go for performance first so I will just swap over the basic components I got in my Eclipse.
Good sound quality! JL audio is sick stuff.. I used to have a 13w7 in my Eclipse but sold it to some sucker for more than I bought it for and for personal reasons because my ears would ring after driving awhile with it.
With the G8, I will probably go with two 8" JL W7's and get them to fit the factory 8" subwoofer holes. Thats after my full exhaust and supercharger though

For my birthday I received four of the Polk Audio 6 1/2" Coaxial speakers. The same as listed above. The installation could not have been easier, they were a perfect fit.
After evaluating them on a variety of CD's I can make the following statements:
-They sound much better than stock.
-The volume will not get as loud as the factory speakers, but nearly so.
-On a scale of 1 to 10, I give the factory setup a 6.5, with four new speakers, front and rear doors I would give the sound an 8.5 of 10
Generally I do not max the volume out, commuting back and forth to work. They sound much richer than before. Voices seem clearer, especially female vocalists.
I was hoping for a better overall package, but this is probably a good start. I need to investigate the current subwoofers, and possible options with them.
