GXP Pushed Out to 2009
Was just on Pontiac.com and noticed that the GXP portion of the site was updated and now reads Available 2009. I thought originally it was fall of 2008?
With horsepower and torque expected to hit 400, the first-ever Pontiac G8 GXP exudes power. Plain and simple. It also has the style and performance to move you in other ways.
It starts with what’s under the hood — a 6.2L V8 LS3 engine that helps you jet from 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. To apply that on the pavement, the G8’s four-wheel independent suspension system and wide stance keep you anchored when you’re putting it through its paces.
Add manual transmission, exclusive high-performance-tuned suspension, rear-wheel drive, distinctive look for front and rear, and a sleek body — and you have the ultimate performance sedan. Available 2009.

Don't really think that's much different from before.

Christmas is late 2008, but still model year 2009. Nobody ever said Fall. If they wait until February 09 they could call it a 2010. Even without seeing EPA numbers I know it'll be too much of a gas hog for me.

#1 on the list for a GXP
Well, I called my local Pontiac dealership, specifically asking about the GXP, and the lady asked me, "Want to be first on the list?". Um, yeah . She said that she will be able to actually order my car soon and implied its coming out as a 2009 model and will be out this fall.

The GXP is going to be very cool, there is no doubt about it. But I fail to see any good reason for me to have waited the extra year for it. I bought my G8 a few weeks back, had it tuned, and it now puts out close to 400 at the flywheel and 410+ pounds of torque. For a very inexpensive tune, I have now made my G8 GT into a high 12 second car and didn't have to wait 8 months, nor pay extra for a few accesories/style que's here and there. By the way, with the 2010 Camaro available in early 2009, the balancing act, in my eyes, favors the Camaro. They are going to weigh about the same, but rumors are swirling about the supercharged Cadillac powerplant with over 500 horsepower in the Camaro. Anyone looking for a G8 cheap in November, give me a shout.

If you are serious about selling in the next year or so, and remember this post, send me a message.

I emailed a communications guy at Pontiac and he said when I asked when dealers would be able to order a GXP:
"It will likely be in September or October. The first G8 GXPs should be available in late November or early December.
You should know that production of the GXP will be somewhat limited. With more than 2,600 Pontiac dealers nationwide, only the largest dealers in your area are likely to get any of the very first cars. While I can not suggest a specific dealership, I would urge you to inquire at some of the larger dealers in your area and get your name on a waiting list early to ensure the best possible chance of getting a GXP when they are available."
