Default Sound dampening
When I installed my K&N drop-in I noticed a white mesh screen on the top inside of the airbox. I am guess this is for noise.

Has anyone removed it and noticed any difference in sound?

its not for noise its to direct the airflow.

It's for emissions when the car is shut off the dirty air from the valve cover is cleaned by it ...
