I guess that limits me to the GXP then. What's up with that? How hard is it to put a manual in the G8 GT?

Apparently, the automatic absorbs what may be felt as a jerk or hesitation when the AFM goes on and off better than a manual would.
It's a ride quality thing, do you really want to feel it every time the AFM kicks on and off?
Although I don't know why they couldn't put one behind the V6.

You could, but GM won't build it that way, at least for now.

It is not just the R/T, it is the CAFE. GM has to raise it's average gas mileage dramatically. There are two ways to do this. Sell better mileage cars. or sell enough high mileage cars to offset the low mileage ones. The only way that GM can build a GXP, is to sell 4 Geo Metro's or equivelent, per GXP. I doubt many people want the "offset" car, and until they move them they won't be able build another GXP.

Do not be surprised when there is only one GXP per dealership, and it is $20,000 over list. GM can no longer build what the consumer wants anymore. The United States Government is protecting us from ourselves. In my humble opinion GM will not build enough G8 GT's to fulfill demand, because they can't! They have to average out the fuel economy. If you are holding out for a GXP, good luck...

Maybe GM will just start selling package deals, [Package#1] 1 G8-GXP and 2 G5's, to average the fuel economy out....

I agree that they will not supply enough to fill the demand. I believe this will be used as a successful marketing strategy though. If you can offer a good enough product, such that you create a base of consumers who "must have it", yet purposely keep demand high... You're in business. In this way, I also foresee steady price increases. But that strategy is all dependent on offering a product that is "good enough" to initiate that "must have"-demand.

Remind anyone of the market strategy of that stuff your G8GT craves? (oil/gas/hydrocarbons of a certain mixed config...)

AFM is still active in sport mode, it is only deactivated once the manual option is used.
