It isn't, as I recall they said it would be a few months later after the intial release.

Do we have a confirmed release date for the G8. I have read anywhere from Aug 07 to Feb 08.

Same here. Thought the NY show would yield a more than "general" date. I'm going to pass by the Pontiac dealer this week and am planning on stopping by. Not that they'll know any more than we know though....

They probably know more but have been told not to give out any info that isn't already public knowledge.

meh. i wouldn't buy a car like that with a manual transmission anyway. manual's are for little cars like vettes. not big 4 door cars.

I for one am getting an automatic. I know that goes against the grain of the traditional 'performance car enthusiast' thinking, but to be honest, I never learned. Besides, the automatic is supposed to have a manumatic mode anyway, so if I feel like being a bit more sporty I can always do that anyway.

Automatic G8 GT probably as well. I have a MT in my Forester now and do enjoy it though.

Well I must say, having a manual in a 4 door non-exotic looking vehicle doesnt seem very practical. (In a big city like NYC, lol) But.... having a manual and shifting through those gears especially with a short shift kit, is an awesome experience! Im all for the manual! and will gladly wait for it!

I happen to think that for those of us most likely to purchase \ select the 6 speed automatic trans., this is a very “good thing”. And also could work to GM \ Pontiac’s advantage as well.
My observation is that when any new car becomes available and a manual trans. is offered at introduction, the manual trans. receives nearly all the press & all the instrumented testing.
I hope ( for your sake ) that the manual is not delayed a full year – and I doubt that it will be. But I do hope that the automatic is all that is available for the ‘long lead’ press introduction. That way, we will likely see extended commentary on that trans. and have hard acceleration numbers for comparison.
When the manual does become available, the magazines will likely conduct & publish another test. Possibly in a comparison. Potentially increasing the Model & Brand exposure.
- Ray
Waiting for my invitation to that ‘long lead’ preview ( HA !! )

They don't have a release date yet. My father is the GM of a Pontiac dealer.

Mike C, I can tell you're going to become a favorite on this forum...
In my talks with my Pontiac dealer, they said that the timing will be MUCH improved over the GTOs (no suprise, but thank goodness), and that they should expect to have the first ones in showrooms by Christmas.
Granted, this was at the Pontiac dealer nearest some of the most affluent cities in SE Michigan, so I don't know if they get priority or what. I know they were the dealer that got the most Solstices in Michigan and the surrounding states.
I sure hope it's by Christmas - my lease is up in September!

Wow, that would be a nice Christmas, though I'd be looking for a set of snow tires for it if I got it then.
My Forester is leased and is due on May '08. However, it could be a trade-in as the buyout is much lower than the going trade-in values, even after the early termination.

As expected, nothing more to know from the dealer. They seem pretty excited about the G8 as well. They've got my contact info, so hopefully they'll keep me posted.

I talked to Dad the other day. He doesn't have any dates yet. I am getting a loaded Automatic G8 but since we live in CT I was hoping to place my order and take a March / April delivery. If it has to be sooner I guess it will go in the garage for the winter. Dad just took on Pontiac this past November, his most active brand is GMC. We live in Fairfield County so his number one seller is Loaded Yukon Denali and Denali XLs. I could tell you some stories about people walking in a writing checks for $55K+ vehicles like you wouldn't believe. Like the rest of us going to buy grocieries people by vehicles. It still amazes me.

The GMC/Hummer dealership here does a fair amount of business the same way.
The yuppies have their Tahoes/Yukons/Escalades and the rednecks have their big jacked up diesel pickups. Rich parents buying their kids brand new toys.
