Default Waxes

Well, I was gonna post this in an off topic or cleaning area. But, we don't have one yet so I figured I'd post it here. Hope that's ok.

I am wanting to get everyone's opinions on what the best hand waxes are. I am not comfortable using a buffer or having someone else do that to my car. So hand wax is the only way for me.

I went against my better judgment getting a black car. I had a black truck that I sold in less than a year because of paint issues. But, the black is just so sexy.

I need this thing protected ASAP. I know it's a car and things will happen but I want to do everything I can to prevent problems. So lets have it what are the best waxes in y'alls opinion. What about sealants? Do you prefer sealants over wax?

I like Zymol but i don't think it might be best for black vehicles due to streaking.. Theres a local victory wax representative to us.. that stuff seems great for black and its easy to come off.

Oh, and I use Meguiar's NXT on my Formula. Honestly, it seems great to me, but I have a pewter car, so my car almost always looks great. One thing I can definitely say about it is that it's easy to apply and remove.

Default Zaino FTW

I swear by Zaino System.

I used it on my Marauder (Black, of course) and they had THIN paint. It can be ALOT of work, but once you get it done, it is be best and deepest glosses I have ever seen. The Z-5 (Show Car Polish for Swirl Marks and Fine Scratches) works like a charm.

How long does it normally last?

The initial application prosses takes the better part of a work day., but that includes
Washing with dawn dishsoap (removes old wax, grease, grime...)
Claybar the entire surface (pulls metal filings and crap from the paint)
Wash again with dawn (pulls any clay residue)

Start with the polishes and sealers.

It lasts months with washed using the Z-# Car wash and gloss enhacer.

Good deal. Do you know of any local places that have this or is it an internet thing?

Also, I had always heard that absolutely under no circumstances should you ever use a dish detergent to wash your car. Something to do with the clear coat. So is it safe?

The reason not to use Dish soap is it removes waxes and other polishes. Sence that is the idea, its ok. Dish soap won't generaly harm the clear coat.

I'm not sure about local dealers, I always ordered via the web.

Zaino Store

It's ALOT of work, but I think it's worth it.

WHEN, not if, I get my G8, I will be ordering a fresh batch of it.

One thing to add... Never ever use anything other than liquid soap on a car.

Darn it! I just bought a case of Irish Spring from Sam's.

I guess I will have enough soap for the rest of the year. rotfl

I can just imagine some idiot using powder detergent on his car, then getting pissed at this forum for saying dish soap is alright to use.

Myfavorite is Astroshield, which is a polish, not a wax. NuFinish works well, also but requires a little more work. An Astroshield two-coat application will last a full 6 months and you can even refresh it in between without harm. You can apply a true wax over the top but in my experience it is not really necessary. This stuff goes on so smooth and you can do the whole car, even in the sun, and then wipe it off without killing yourself. One secret is to use your bare hands (without rings) to apply it, working in a straight line and not cirsles. Once dry you can use a microfiber cloth in circles to buff. Less chance of getting dirt embeded in teh paint from anything trapped in a cloth applicator. It also does a number on bugs and tar without scratching. (enough of a commercial, yet?) Most local parts stores can get it if they don't stock it.

Anyone used ultima? Looks to be owned by Meguiars and I have read some good reviews. Seems to be quite a bit less than Zaino.

Also, are you supposed to wait a few months for the paint to cure on the car? Someone on another forum said something about this. I am so lost. I just want it protected as much as possible with a wax that LASTS.

I had a black 1996 GMC Jimmy 2-Door. I used the Mothers 3-Step System. Takes a long time to do but the truck looked awsome when done.

I have family members who are auto body / car painters and they say that you should never wax a black car in circles, only in straight lines side to side.

I have heard people on Cadillac Forums who seem to like Zaino* -- I use AutoMagic's products.

I've heard that on modern paint jobs, this isn't an issue. Even if it was, I'm sure enough time passes between paint and delivery that it's not an issue.

If it was an issue by the time my lazy butt gets around to doing it, it definitely won't be a problem.

I would up going with Klasse All-in-one and P21S 100% Carnauba Wax as a top coat.

I'll post some pics when ever I get it done. Probably next weekend.
