Insurance
Insurance costs are making it an unfortunate truth that i'm probably gonna have to settle for either the G8 V6 or HHR SS.
Wish the G8 had the HHR's fuel econ. Or that the HHR SS had the 6.5 LCMFD/11 speaker system/leather/styling the G8 has.
GM needs to build a 30mpg+ car with a decent sound system and leather. Call it the "collegiate", for underpaid college students who want a decent car to attract sorority chicks.
Any thoughts? Consolment? Words of encouragement?

Being a young guy blows as far as insurance is concerned. There's not much you can do about it.

That's weird. I thought the rates were VERY reasonable on it. Of course I just turned 25 not long ago so I have already gotten out of the higher rates thing because of age. Costs me less than $100 for full coverage maxed out on everything. And I got a discount on my truck insurance, brought it down by $100 every 6 months. I was very pleased with the pricing. I thought it would be much more.
Sorry, your rates are so high. I would definitely check around to see if someone can give you a deal that you can afford. Maybe you parents would be willing to put you on their insurance to make it a little cheaper. IDK, just a thought.
Good luck.

I'm under my mom's insurance and the cost for for the g8 gt is only $100/month, so I think I lucked out...I just graduated from college, so I moved back home and I'll plan on being here for at least a little bit...So I think that was one of the reasons I was able to put her name on the insurance too... which really brought it down, since I'm only 22.

I stopped at my insurance agent's office today and asked for the cost if my child was 17 years old today on the G8 GT, under my name as additional driver with max coverage... $1450.00 year. Not bad at all.

Wow. An "underpaid" college student (you get paid to go to college?) who can only have a brand new HHR SS or brand new G8 V6? That's a real tragedy. Please tell me your joking and I'm not really supposed to feel "sorry" for you.
Sounds like you might want to hit up mom and dad for more money. Ever heard of a used beater car?

I have yet to get the updated bill from changing over to the G8, but i was quoted just under $400 every 6 months. I'm 25 and have had a clean record since i've been 16. I've also been with them (American Family) for 4-5 years....
keep your head up though man. I paid $1400 for 7 months of insurance on my CBR 600 when i was in high school! If the feeling you get from driving it is right, does the price really matter?

God forbid he got a job and made payments.
And I'd take a beater before I'd take an HHR SS...

Just for comparison the G8 GT is $48/yr cheaper than my Charger Daytona was, with Allstate.
Seems like a deal to me....

Hey, be wary of not giving credit where credit is due. I have always drove nice cars, I'm not very old (read very young). In college I really hated the guys with SLs and 911s or 6series which were obviously from mom and dad. My cars always did fine, and I paid for them. Not all college kids are spoiled jacks. The problem is, most are and most people (old or young) don't want to work hard today.
Hard workers get ahead and have nice things... Things are a dime a dozen, hard workers are priceless...
