We (PCMforless) had our first G8 GT dyno experience last night, March 17 with less than 30 on the odometer

Here are our first runs on the dyno. We do not know what grade of octane the dealership put in it, so there may possibly be more in this

Shouldn't you get 361? or is that what the engine makes but what the rear wheels make is actually less

Due to inefficiencies in the drivetrain, observed rear wheel horsepower will be less than rated horsepower, except for cases where the car is underrated.

Typically the lose in HP from the engine back is ~15% for a manual and ~20% for an auto. That is what I have known as the "rule of thumb".

Very decent numbers for a brand new car.

That's what we don't know - the dealership doesn't know what was in it.

So, we'll put some more miles on it, run some premium, and give it another whack. I know there's more in it

Dueling dynos at dueling tuners! How cool is that. I'm assuming that baselines of 305 on a Mustang and 287 on a dynojet are comparable? Although the other vehicle does have 300 miles break-in and 93 octane. And with that they achieved +30 hp and +33 lb-ft post tune, yeah there's more in it. Fully broken in 400 eng hp easy. Look out GXP.

Yeah we have no idea what type of gas was in it. We took the vehicle before it was even done in PDI. So chances are it has some goofy auzzy gas mixed with aobut the 2 gallons the dealer gave us. We are going to get back on the dyno VERY soon to try to see what we can get out of it with a good tank of gas. We are hoping to see a good 322-330 out of it.

As far as different ddynos.. Well they can read higher and lower.. The good thing is most dynojets are considered a very relieable and repeatable measure of testing.. This is the same reason why Nascar uses them! Regardless the true meaning of a dyno is seeing the before/after.


After tuning this round in we are going to install a 160 thermostat, a prototype intake, and under drive pulley. We are really excited to be playing with such a cool car. It is definately one quick family ride!

This is making me wish that I hadn't just convinced the g/f that a more fuel efficient car was probably the next vehicle we'd look at.

The base line seems low as was mine . Once I scanned it on the rollers I saw 3-4 degrees of KR .. Called dealer just to confirm my thoughts and yes they put regular 87 octane in it .. I've been driving this thing all over and the gauge just hit 1/2 tank ...BTW it feels very well planted at 135mph on the road. Anyway put some super in it and retest looking at the spark tables there is a good amount to be had from a good tune . OH watch how the AF drops almost 2 full points one you put the cai on it .

Even if they put premium in it.. You really don't know what was in the tank from the start. I'll bet that gas was stale in the tank from the trip over the ocean. I'm sure they test run each vehicle before putting it on the boat... hell they probally drive them on and off!

Yes, they are driven on and off (and apparently on and off again..) the boats.
