News Flash ... "on the way"
On the Australian TV news tonight ... footage of the first ship load of G8's leaving South Australia today. So, however long it takes the ship to cross the Pacific, at least they are now finally "on the way to the USA".
The factory is now turning out 220 Pontiac versions per day for export to the US, alongside the Aussie Commodores and Chevrolet badged version for the Middle East markets.

Any confirmation as to how many are on the ship? I read somewhere it can (only) hold 1500. Which could mean as many as 30 shiploads to move 45,000 per year. That's a loaded ship leaving port every 12 days (and didn't they start loading this one over a month ago?)

Thanks, it looks to be about 3 week late. I thought the first boat was supposed to leave on Nov 25.
Let's hope for a smooth journey.
Anyone know how long it takes to cross the Pacific?? My guess is 27 days.

I was wondering if anybody had pics of the ship being loaded or a link to Video footage. There has to be something out there.

I did a quick google search, this may not relate to cars directly, but it looks like anywhere from 26-31 days. Another site said 49 days...

It will likely take a month to ship from port to port.

Anyone know if there is a ship tracking site similar to the one that lets you look at all the airliners in the sky?

Maybe so, but you'd probably have to go through alot to get the proper information to tell you which one it is.

Yes:
Ship locations
The only problem is no-one has reported the exact name of the ship. There are no ship departures direct from Port Adelaide to Benecia. These vehicle carrier ships seem to make multiple stops along the way. They carry about 5000 vehicles so it's highly unlikely they'll cross the Pacific with only the 1000-1500 G8's. It's also possible that the ship that picked them up in Adelaide will transfer them to another ship bound for the US west coast.
I'm guessing the first ship was the Brussel operated by NYK Lines but it's next stop was Singapore. (it departed Port Adelaide on about 12/22)

It's possibly the 'Coral Highway' out of Panama.
That is the ship being loaded with G8's in the background of Holden's employee magazine .

This ship may have left on Nov. 28th.
Three more ships were to leave in Dec.

I checked the Coral Highway on the ship tracking sites I found but she is not reporting her current location on any of the public sites. One probably needs security clearance to get the real info.
