Thumbs up Dad's Dealership Earned 1 of the 888

Just got the news that his dealership earned one of the first "888." Below is the "letter" he recieved today.

To: Select Eligible Pontiac Dealers
Subject: G8 First 888 Program & 2008MY G8 Dealer Allocation
From: Pontiac Marketing Team
Date: November 21, 2007
Congratulations! Your dealership is eligible for a minimum of one (1) of the First 888 G8 vehicles! You will be contacted by a Pontiac launch team specialist on your vehicle preference(s) sometime during the weeks of November 26 and December 3, in descending order of dealer allocation ranking. Between now and when you are contacted, eligible dealers may wish to communicate with prospects to help determine vehicle preference(s) (see details below). For your individual dealership quantity for the First 888, please contact your zone team representative.
As communicated last week, we are providing the First 888 G8 vehicles to eligible Pontiac dealers to attract your first-in-line G8 consumers and collector-minded enthusiasts. Leveraging the power of “8” in G8, this special introductory G8 First 888 Program will deliver 888 of the earliest retail units to over 700 Pontiac dealers nationwide.
The First 888 G8 vehicles will feature the following:
• Special vehicle identification number (VIN) sequence from #001 to #888 (last 3 digits)
• A unique interior logo on the passenger side that reads “G8 First 888” with an artistic outline of the car (please see image below for reference)
The First 888 vehicles have been pre-packaged and pre-ordered and will be available in both V6 and V8 models in a variety of colors and two different leather trim levels. Select exterior colors include choice of White Hot (11U), Magnetic Gray Metallic (18U), Panther Black (80U), Liquid Red (62U), or Ignition Orange Metallic (77U). Leather trims include choice of Onyx or Onyx/Red two-tone. 80% of the First 888 vehicles will be GT models equipped with a V8 engine and 20% will be base models equipped with a V6 engine. Vehicle configuration choices are available as follows:
First 888 G8 (base) with V6 engine will have one configuration including:
a) Comfort & Sound Package and Premium Package
First 888 G8 GT with V8 engine will be available in two configurations including:
b) Premium Package and optional 18-inch all-season tires
c) Premium Package & Sport Package (includes 19-inch aluminum wheels and summer-only performance tires)
These limited-run First 888 vehicles are being allocated to eligible Pontiac dealers based on the distribution formula combining segment registrations and 12-month retail Pontiac sales. Dealers may wish to use the on-line configurator available on the G8 micro-site at Pontiac.com/G8 to depict their vehicle preference(s).
Elements for Processing G8 First 888 Vehicles:
• In descending order of dealer allocation ranking, First 888 G8 vehicles will be assigned and best matched to a dealer’s vehicle preference(s) based on availability. As these vehicles have been produced in advance, dealers may choose from available colors and trims to best match their desired configuration.
• There are no guarantees of matching vehicles 100% based on dealer preference(s) so please have alternatives in mind when contacted.
• Upon dealer contact by a Pontiac launch team specialist, dealers will be required to provide their vehicle preferences to accommodate the ranked dealer order process.
• Dealers may waive their First 888 allocation if they so choose.
• Specific VINs will NOT be pre-communicated and will be assigned at random.
• A $150 tagging fee (shown on invoice) will be charged per vehicle on all G8 vehicles including the First 888.
• First 888 vehicles will be allocated above and beyond estimated 2008MY dealer allocation quantities provided at Pontiaclaunch.com starting November 21, for your planning purposes.
• First 888 vehicles are expected to arrive by March 2008 depending on dealership location.
Other Important G8 Distribution Notes:
• All Pontiac dealers may view their estimated 2008MY G8 allocation quantity above and beyond the First 888 at Pontiaclaunch.com along with other important updates in the G8 Distribution section starting Wednesday, November 21.
• First Consensus for G8 will be in December 2007. Estimated shipments do not include any First 888 vehicles.
• To help reduce vehicle lead time (time it takes from order to arrival), dealers who earn G8 units for the 2008MY will tag produced vehicles from among 11 different pattern orders (four (4) patterns for the G8 Sedan with V6 and seven (7) patterns for the GT with V8) on-line at gminventory.com starting in January 2008. All patterns will be available in a variety of colors and trim levels. More details will be communicated later.
• G8 units CANNOT be custom ordered (through the normal DOSP process) and dealers with earned allocation will only be able to tag cars on-line against their monthly consensus volume.
• To review G8 tagging business rules, please go to Pontiaclaunch.com in the G8 Distribution section starting Wednesday, November 21.
• For complete details, please tune into the first G8 Launch IDL broadcast on Tuesday, November 27th, at 12PM and 3PM EST on channel 6 for an overview of product, marketing, and distribution plans.
Congratulations once again on being part of the G8 First 888 Program. Good luck and good selling!

And still no sunroof on any of the 888. I don't know about any of you but I feel they could have made sunroofs a standard item and not lost sales, but I need that winter sunshine to come through the roof now that the days are almost as short as they get.

No, they shouldn't add sunroofs until they're ready to accept special orders. Sunroofs reduce headroom, look ugly and inflate the price.

Got a call from my local dealer (where I bought my GXP) and they have one 888 tagged. It is white with onyx leather interior and 18" all weather package. It is a G8 GT.

They wanted to know if I wanted it, but I said I would wait for 19" wheels and sunroof or maybe even 09MY if Nav will become available. And of course there is this nagging thing about the a possible G8 GXP in my mind.

They are supposed to have their car arrive mid March. They are gonna call so I can at least take a drive when it arrives.
