"The first boatload arrives in about a month. "
I wonder how long they will sit in customs?

Something's fishy. If they arrive late Dec. what's taking the other 3 months?
And if the ship holds 1500 then that implies we'll see the first wave of non 888 versions mixed in with the 888's.
Why is customs any more complicated for this car then a GM car from Canada or Mexico?
I wonder if GM is sandbagging the schedule.

They look great! I'll take one of those, or one of those, maybe that one over there...

The info I had from Pontiac's Dealer Network said that the first "888" cars would arrive at dealers in March. All marekting info prior to that stated "expected arrival of G8s was late First Quarter."

Specifically, Mike, the info says that all of the 888 will be in dealer hands before the end of March which to me means some deliveries in Feb. Timeframe includes customs, transportation to a distribution center, train to another center for most, coordination with trucking to end dealers. UNfortunately it all takes time.

Might this first shipment include some capture test fleet vehicles in there as well? Maybe a number of unsellable vehicles that will be used and tested internally?
Here's a scarry thought, what if all 1500 on the first shipment aren't sellable. Just a thought.
We ordered a Saab 9-3 a couple of years ago. Took 16 weeks from order placement to delivery. Shipment was only 2-3 weeks of that process.

There may be some press vehicles in the mix, although I suspect that with deadlines for print exposure to coincide with deliveries that the press fleet is already here. When it comes to EPA and crash testing as well as promo those cars get flown here by air transport. Those tests have already taken place or they would not have begun production.
They have stated a promise that at a minimum 888 cars will be in dealer hands by the end of March, for which I still see some in Feb as not a problem. And there may be more that arrive before or with them that are the higher # cars. History repeats and non-first 1000 Solstices were shipped and delivered prior to the last of the first 1000 special units.

Thats good. I didn't know that they "promised" to have all of the 888's in dealers hands by the end of March. I can tell you thought that a few good winter snow storms across the country could push that in to early April for the Northeast. The cars come in to port in CA correct? Imagine those poor cars going through some of those mountain passess and then hitting a good ole' Nor'easter. Poor things.

That's precisly the window they are giving themselves, to be able to deliverthe last of the 888 to the farthest reaches in the worst weather, upstate NY or northern Maine come quickly to mind. Yes, they arrive in CA, and this time around CA and southern dealers may see cars a month before some parts of the country. (with the GTO sunny dry areas did not get first dibs or even first cars)
