First "888" G8 Information
Here you go guys. Hot off the presses. Problem I see is that they are so limited, you may not be able to get the G8 you want. So you may have to choose.
This leads to an important G8 launch announcement. To attract collector-minded enthusiasts and first-in-line G8 consumers, we are proud to introduce the G8 First 888 Program. Leveraging the power of "8" in G8, this special introductory program will provide 888 of the earliest retail units to reach over 700 Pontiac dealers nationwide. The First 888 G8's feature a vehicle identification number (VIN) sequence from #001 to #888 (last three digits of VIN) and a unique interior trim logo on the passenger-side dash panel that reads "G8 First 888." These initial vehicles will be allocated to select Pontiac dealers based on a distribution formula combining segment registrations and 12-month retail Pontiac sales.
Quantities of First 888 vehicles for individual Pontiac dealers will be communicated starting next week and eligible dealers will receive one (1) or more vehicles, depending on their earned allocation. Eligible dealers will receive further program communication on Monday, November 19, 2007, via GM Messenger. Vehicle assignments will occur starting on Wednesday, November 21. Please keep in mind that given the very limited number of vehicles available, certain Pontiac dealers will not be eligible for a First 888 vehicle. However, all dealers may view their estimated 2008MY G8 allocation quantity beyond the First 888 at Pontiaclaunch.com in the G8 distribution section by Wednesday, November 21, 2007 for their planning purposes.
The First 888 vehicles have been pre-packaged and pre-ordered and will be available in both V6 and V8 models in a variety of colors and trims. Vehicles are expected to arrive by March 2008 depending on dealership location. For your information, attached is an electronic copy of a new G8 hero card highlighting product features, option packages, free flow options, and more.

With "official" news that th efirst 888 will arrive in March that should mean 889 and above right on their heels in April. While the assumption that this is a first year car is only a half truth some of the trepadition over getting a brand new model should be dispelled. However, getting every other third big city Pontiac dealer to give one of these up to a smalltown dealer where I would rather purchase are next to nil. I'll take the info in anyway so that they can check out their allocation schedule. What we do need to do is petition "Maxiimum Bob" and "Big Rick" to lay down the law of no price gouging.

My GM sources have been reporting all along that they wouldn't hit the ground until Late First Quarter. So if they hit March they will be right on time. I think there was a perception, or just internet chatter, that they would be here sooner, but I think that was all speculation.

Well it sure beats the internet chatter from a few days ago that it might be late 2nd 1/4.

Thanks for the info but something's fishy. I thought Holden just started the build at a rate of 260 cars/wk. If 888 cars don't show up in the US until March that's a very tiny amount.
How long does the boat ride take and where' the US port???
The odds of getting the exact car I want sounds very remote until later on in the build cycle.

I am going to guess that you are going to see the first 700 ("888") sitting side by side with some of the regular models as well 889-????. But keep in mind that according to Holden, they only have the capacity to build a maximum of 30,000 G8's for the 2008 build. I suggest that if you want a car a certain way you start talking to your dealer now. They are doing their consenses in December. I am going to see how many my Dad earns and see what he is thinking he is going to build. If he gets enough allocation I am going to ask him to order me a couple variations and then pick what looks best, but there are no guarantees. I wish we could figure out how many Pontiac dealers are in the country. Anyone know?

Approximately 2100, give or take. At least that's the figure I recall from the Solstice introduction. { Might be as high as 2800}That's how I conclude that it is only about a third or less of all Pontiac dealers that will get at least one "888".

There are 2700 Pontiac dealers of which only 700 will receive any initial 888 allocation.
The total MY'08 allocation per dealer looks like it ranges between 2-7 units based on the research I've done.
