The 2008 CTS has AWD, but for some reason you can only get it with the 3.6L standard engine and not the 3.6L DI at 300 hp.
I read somewhere that the Zeta chasis can accomodate AWD, but have not heard of any prototypes or anything with it yet.

There are no restrictions on AWD by engine on the CTS, however you can only get it with automatic. I've seen them in person as well.
I'm all for adding AWD to the G8 option list, especially as cheap as you can get it on the CTS, $1900. It may look like there is no option to select it when you build a vehicle at www.cadillac.com , but trust me, why specify a 6 speed automatic for AWD if you don't get AWD included in the package. Here's just one example:

Hey Chief I believe you, that must have changed since launch because I remember reading there were constraints and I was thinking that it sucked you couldn't get the 300 hp motor with the AWD. Maybe it was because they built a lot of the manuals with the DI out of the gate so it wasn't initially available? Or I could just be nutz which is always a possibility.

Mike, it is a little confusing that both in dealerworld and at cadillac.com they do not specifically list the option as AWD, just the tranny required for it. But that's how they come through, and all the ones I've seen online and in the flesh with the $1900 tranny DO have AWD spelled out on the sticker and in the car.

Yes to AWD.
According to a contact in GM the Wagon is coming (I assume if year one sales are good) and an AWD / V6 version will be in the mix to take on the Magnum. He was clear that it will be V6 only.

Probably because of what would happen to Fuel Econonmy of the V-8 with AWD.

You are probably right. That's the new reality.

So it might be time to shop for a V6 s/c or twin turbo setup to push out 330 hp? Must be the same convoluted "wisdom" that precludes the G6 convertible from having either of the top two engines (even though when first introduced it came with more power)

I know. I could never figure that out with the G6 Convertible. It doesn't make sense to me why they carry 4 engines for the G6 model line. 2.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.9? It should just be 2.4 4 Cyl and 3.6 6-Cyl. And if you really want to add one the 3.6 DI.

The structure is engineered for AWD.
