Looks like white has been added as a color. Scoops are standard on all G8s as is remote start. The Commodore's big wing sounds like its available as well. It also says non-split spoke wheels are standard on the GT.

No mention of the badge being red or silver. So it's probably red on all G8s.

I know this informaiton will be updated right up to lunch. But did anyone notice what is missing? Things I thought would have been included as options were:
1. XM Radio
2. Navigation System
3. Autodiming Rearview Mirror
4. Bluetooth Connectivity
5. Rear Park Assist
6. Heated Sideview Mirrors
7. 19" All Season Tires

There is still a chance some of this could be added and I am not saying I want / need all this stuff, but I just thought it would have been offered.

1. will be included I am sure, probably just an oversight as it is on every other gm offering
2. useless unless you can pop it out of the car to take into the woods - get a nav capale cellphone instead
3. if someone catches up to you, well you deserve non-dimming
4. also not a biigie for me, unless you want hands-free cellphone to play through the radio (use ONSTar instead)
5. it's called turning your head and looking backwards when you are in reverse - something foreign to everyone born after 1970
6. they manually fold - that's the trade-off
7. 18's will have to work (all-season) for me so no sport package in this garage

Hey Chief I agree with you on your comments, mostly, as I don't need the Nav to drive to work, althought I like the auto dimming mirror in my Envoy, I have an earpiece for my cell phone, always turn my head when backing up despite being born in 1973, my Envoy mirrors are heated and manual fold as well, I am getting 19's and will use my '97 Cavalier, or the 2000 1 Ton dump body when the weather is bad.

My point was that these seem like common options on other GM products of similar price range so I am suprised they were not there yet. XM is even standard on the G6. But I also think it is cool that these things are missing as it should help to keep the cost down.

The folding mirrors puzzled me as I don't see that as a feature on the GP or G6. Could be some of the book was cut and paste from a truck pattern, like they did with the Solstice (when it first went live on DW the Sol had dual fuel tanks) Even the G6 and GP have at least manual day/night - there is no specific distinction here. ( but I think my '03 GP IS auto-dim- just reinstalled it)

I thought they were making XM standard across the board, like OnStar - but the problem may be that Blaupunkt doesn't do satellite yet.

Still pisses me a little that such a prominent feature of the GP for the last 11 model years has been the availability of HUD and the G8 has none.

I am curious how much is missing from the actual production car.

We know that Nav is offered on the Commodore with this same Blaupunkt unit. Because of how the HVAC controls are integrated into the screen, a remove and replace for a suitable unit is really not a viable option. I wondered about XM also since it's not available on the home market car.

Bluetooth would be nice, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go missing. I am interested in Bluetooth since I am maxed on phones on the Verizon Friends and Family (already have one Onstar phone there) and cannot afford the Onstar minutes for the number of calls I make a month. I have a company provided phone and would be nice to have a good handsfree solution. And yes, I have an earpiece currently, but the sound quality can be less than desirable.

HUD would have been nice, but we know why that wasn't included. It obviously was not forgotten, just was too late in the process to be included within budget.

My biggest potential disappointment is the fact that several of those items are expected standard or optional in this car's market arena. I would really hate to think these things are missing, especially since several of these items are available on the home market car.

Looking at the omissions, you have to assume that at least some are going to be available because they are standard for the class. If GM has truly "learned their lessons" from the GTO then they have to know that an improved equipment list is part of that lesson, since the Goat had several gaping holes in that respect.

1. XM Radio - Has to be offered; I can't see how it won't be.

2. Navigation System - Major oversight if not offered as an option. Yeah, I know aftermarket solutions are better (I'd never order OEM Nav) but it's common and they need to match the class.

3. Autodimming Rearview Mirror - Should be part of Premium Package if not standard. Could go either way.

4. Bluetooth Connectivity- Absolutely required for the class, should be offered with Premium Pack.

5. Rear Park Assist - Not common enough yet to force as an available option. Maybe next gen...

6. Heated Sideview Mirrors - Nice (I'd get 'em) but not required. Should be part of a Premium and/or Cold Weather Pack.

7. 19" All Season Tires - Unlikely. You're better off with 18's anyway; most 19" option packages are "sport" or "performance" (ironic since 19's add substantially more rotating weight, little added cornering capability, and less compliance). But who knows...wasn't the concept shod with 20's?

Believe it or not, I'm cross-shopping the G8 GT with the BMW 135i coming out next spring so my tastes are pretty broad. Both have the potential to be great driver's cars (even though the G8 will be substantially heavier). Stock and modified performance with both should be quite impressive. I look forward to more info/comments.

I do believe that – largely because I am looking at the 335 as well as the G8 ( 335 because, at least initially, the 135 appears to be coming to N.A. only as a Coupe – and I am looking for a Sedan this time around ) and the weight of the G8 is one ‘issue’ for me.

I have driven the 335 Sedan, recently, and I was quite impressed. Briefly: Even with my sales dweeb as ballast ( 180#s or so, I’d guess ) to deal with, the 335’s acceleration impressed me. Driving as I typically would, with the sunroof in the vent position, I found the minimal engine noise & subtle but melodic exhaust sound quite enjoyable. ( Incidentally, this was with the Steptronic trans. )

Coming from my 2007 Corvette, rated at 400\400 for HP\TQ and with a curb weight around 3300#s, and the 335 weighing closer to 3600 & saddled with a 5% handicap here ( the additional weight of my ‘Client Advisor’ in the right seat ) I was all the more impressed with the throttle response & quickness. This engine is a masterpiece. I had high expectations for this aspect of the car’s performance - and they were met.

Anyway – my one specific comment here is in response your statement about ‘modified performance’.

My reading suggests that the 335 ( and I expect the 135 ) can be made essentially ‘Corvette quick’ for less than $1,400 ( Vishnu’s PROcede ) – and perhaps less than $1,000 ( Juice Box ) – and I do NOT see that as a possibility for a G8. Less acceleration for that kind of money – or much more $$s to achieve that level of acceleration.

One published source:

ROADandTRACK.com -- Ampersand - Vishnu's BMW 335i (10/2007)

"...Vishnu 335i hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds (versus 4.8 stock) and ran a 12.9-sec. quarter mile at 108.9 mph (vs. 13.4 at 105.1)."

I am debating whether to buy and '08 or see how they are and what they upgrade and get an '09. It is kind of nice not having car payments.

looks like the post was deleted - but 0 - 60 = 4.8 sec??

“The 335i rips to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, 0.1 second slower than the current M3’s time, and the quarter-mile falls in 13.6 seconds at 105 mph” – C+D Coupe Test w/ Manual Trans.

2007 BMW 335i Coupe - Road Tests - Car and Driver November 2006

“0 - 60 (sec): 4.8” - Edmunds.com test ( Manual Trans. )

“0-to-60-mph passes in 4.9 seconds” - C+D Coupe test with Automatic \ Steptronic

Tested: 2007 BMW 335i Coupe Automatic - Road Tests - Car and Driver July 2007 -performance-payoffs-page3.html

0 – 60 = 5.0
Quarter = 13.5 @ 104.5 - R&T Coupe Data Panel - w/Manual Trans.

One tenth – even 2 tenths ( to 60 and \ or in the Quarter ) between 2 different magazine, 2 test drivers, 2 different venues & slightly to very different weather conditions – is not unusual.

+1 to all comments. I have driven the 335i coupe in both manual and steptronic forms (with a CA as boat anchor) and it is an impressive machine. The reason I'm looking at the 135i is 1) hopefully the price difference between that and a similarly equipped 335i will be substantial and 2) I don't need a larger car (although I may end up buying one). The weight difference between the 335i and 135i is about 90 lbs if you believe BMW's published unladen weights. Needless to say, their horsepower figures for the N54 are substantially understated.

I must agree that a 135i/335i will be far easier and cheaper to get 50-100 extra ponies from...the question at this point is reliability in modded form. Although more expensive to mod, the LSx has plenty of experience that says 450 rwhp won't be a problem. The N54 is still new and unproven in that respect. The new 6-speed auto in the G8 GT may be a weak link but I don't know enough about it to say. BMW's ZF Steptronic is by all accounts very stout ...stronger than the manual.

At any rate, I'm waiting to be pleasantly surprised by Pontiac. I actually liked the GTO but it was saddled with too many compromises, too little equipment, and an aging platform. I was hoping that Holden would work on the weight issue with the Commodore but historically weight isn't an issue with them. 400/400 a la the LS2 GTO would've been a nice mitigator but oh well...

Good luck with your decision. I'm going to be lurking here for a good while as information comes out.
